The country experienced a power supply total blackout on Wednesday, 27th July 2016, between 7:14pm and 10:00pm. The blackout originated from a fault on the Nalubaale and Kiira power generation stations that are operated by Eskom Uganda Limited in Jinja District.
The System Operator, Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL), through collaboration with the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC), used power supply support from the Kenya Power System to restore Uganda’s power system by Wednesday, 27th July 2016, 10:00pm.
The Electricity Regulatory Authority regrets the incident and inconvenience that may have been caused to electricity consumers and other stakeholders. The Authority, in liaison with the concerned licensees, has commenced investigations into the incident and will use the findings to prevent or/and mitigate similar occurrences in the future.
ERA remains committed to ensuring efficient and reliable electricity supply in Uganda, as mandated under the Electricity Act, Chapter 145 of the Laws of Uganda.
