The Weights and Measures (Electricity Meters) Rules 2015

The Weights and Measures (Electricity Meters) Rules 2015, have been released by the Ministry of Trade and Industry.

The rules are meant to direct the import, export, testing and use of electricity meters in Uganda.  As provided for under the new rules, the cost of the new meter has increased by UGx 8,000 and the new connection cost has correspondingly increased by UGx 8,000. 

Pursuant to section 24.1.1 of the Electricity (Primary Grid Code) Regulations 2003, all electricity delivered or sold by a licensee or retail seller is required to be charged for by meter measurements. The rules were established on 22nd May 2015 and came into force on 1st July 2016. They are being implemented by the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) derived from the Weights and Measures Act, Cap 103.  All stakeholders are expected to abide by the rules. Download the full Rules here…
